Amendments to Episode Transcript
The livestream episode “Critical Chris on Politics | Episode 1”, recorded in 2026, is amended as follows:
(a) The statement made at approximately 12:46, reading: “Most Senators, I believe are also MP’s. Let me just double check that. Oh, they’re not. It says it’s not. But I am going to look into that a bit more. I think Google’s misunderstanding my question. Because I believe there are people - Maybe not, maybe not.”
is struck out and replaced with the following: “Senators are not Members of Parliament. According to the Senate of Canada website (sencanada.ca/senators), Canada’s 105 senators are men and women of accomplishment and experience. They are business people and scientists, judges and teachers, athletes, community leaders and senior civil servants who use their lifetimes of expertise to ensure Parliament acts in the best interests of Canadians. Senators come from diverse ethnic, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds; they use the wisdom gleaned from their own experiences to give minorities a strong voice in Parliament. Free to speak their minds and act on their consciences, senators play an essential role in Canada’s parliamentary democracy.”
(b) The statement made at approximately 13:26, reading: “Currently, um, I think most were selected by Trudeau. I don’t think the Senate gets recreated during an election because the Senate has nothing to do with elections…”
is struck out and replaced with the following: “All but 16 of the sitting Senators were appointed on the advice of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The remaining senators include 2 appointed on the advice of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien (Lib.) and 14 appointed on the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper (C.).” (Source: https://sencanada.ca/en/senators/)
In addition, the following accurate description of the Senate appointment process is inserted: “Pursuant to sections 24 and 32 of the Constitution Act, 1867, the power to summon qualified persons to the Senate is vested in the Governor General. By constitutional convention, the Governor General acts on the advice of the Prime Minister. Once appointed, Senators serve until they reach the mandatory retirement age of 75 or resign. They are not subject to election.” (Source: https://www.canada.ca/en/campaign/independent-advisory-board-for-senate-appointments/about-the-senate.html)
